A very common problem in vintage stereos is a slow turntable. Either the platter doesn’t turn or it turns so slowly that you don’t recognize the record being played. Most times, the problem is some dried grease in the motor or on the bearings that support the turntable. This is a normal problem and relatively easy to fix if you have some decent mechanical skills.
What we do is to take the platter off and and remove the bearings. That gets put into a small container of isopropyl alcohol to soak for a few hours. We also disassemble the motor from the underside of the turntable and take apart the motor as far as the spindle to soak the moving drum.
After a few hours or overnight, take them out, wipe, replace and oil with a special bering oil.
